Launch of Canadian Centennial of Flight Project

OTTAWA – The Canadian Centennial of Flight Board of Directors and Hawk One Team will hold a press conference at Vintage Wings of Canada, September 20 to launch the celebrations of 100 years of powered flight in Canada for 2009.  

 

The press conference will take place at the Vintage Wings of Canada hangar during their Open House and will commence at 13:00 hrs.  Colonel (retired) Chris Hadfield, Canadian Space Agency astronaut, will introduce Hawk One and Mr. Geoffrey Languedoc, Chair of the Centennial of Flight Board of Directors, will present the Canadian Centennial of Flight Project.

 

There will be an opportunity for the media to speak with Colonel (retired) Hadfield and Mr. Languedoc after the ceremony.

 

During the Vintage Wings of Canada Open House, media will also be able to witness the “Victory Flight” fly-past of a Hawker Hurricane, Spitfire, Mustang, and Corsair all owned by Michael Potter, President of Vintage Wings of Canada. The Hawker Hurricane and Spitfire will be participating in the Battle of Britain parade to be held here in Ottawa, September 21 at Canada Aviation Museum.

Editor’s Note – Media interested in the morning practice fly-past are requested to arrive at the Vintage Wings of Canada hangar grounds located at Gatineau Airport, 1699 Rue Arthur Fecteau, Gatineau, QC, no later than 10:45 hrs for the 11:00 hrs fly-past. All media shall arrive by 12:40 hrs for the 13:00 hrs press conference.

 In the event of inclement weather, the press conference will continue as planned. The practice fly-pasts will be cancelled or delayed.
